Hwidiem, Adansi South District – In a major effort to deepen community engagement and fortify grassroots health systems, the Adansi South District Assembly, in partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS), organized a massive Community Durbar at Hwidiem on Wednesday, 1st April 2026.
The public forum brought together traditional leaders, assembly members, opinion leaders, and hundreds of local residents to discuss critical community developments and pressing public health strategies.
A central focus of the durbar was updating the community on ongoing health measures within the district, following recent targeted interventions such as the reactive Mpox vaccination campaign and routine immunization strengthening. Medical officers and disease control specialists from the District Health Directorate used the platform to educate residents on how to spot early symptoms of vaccine-preventable diseases, epidemic outbreaks, and Tuberculosis (TB).
The Adansi South District Assembly emphasized that public health cannot succeed without the active participation of the community. Traditional authorities and residents were urged to act as local health ambassadors by reporting unusual health symptoms immediately to local clinics and cooperating with visiting health workers.
During the open forum, residents of Hwidiem had the opportunity to engage directly with local government and health officials, addressing neighborhood sanitation concerns, health facility access, and community safety.
The Adansi South District Health Directorate highly commended the chiefs and people of Hwidiem for their exceptional turnout and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that high-quality, safe health delivery reaches every corner of the district.
