The Adansi South District Assembly, in partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS), is pleased to announce the official implementation of the Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) initiative within the district, effective today, Tuesday, 19th May, 2026.
This initiative aligns with the national strategy to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by eliminating financial barriers to essential, primary-level healthcare services for all residents.
Key Implementation Details:

Zero Out-of-Pocket Costs: Residents can now access essential medical consultations, diagnosis, and treatment for common illnesses (including malaria, diarrheal diseases, and acute respiratory infections) at no cost.

No NHIS Card Required for Primary Care: Active National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration is not a prerequisite for receiving basic care under this program. Residents only need to present a valid Ghana Card or national ID to confirm their identity at point of service.

Routine Annual Screenings: The initiative guarantees every resident of the district one free wellness screening per year, specifically targeting early detection of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.

Eligible Facilities: These free services are available at all designated primary healthcare levels across the district, including CHPS Compounds, Health Posts, and Health Centres.
Clarification on Referral Protocols:
The public is advised that the Free Primary Health Care initiative is designed to support, not replace, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). While primary treatments are free, an active NHIS card is still required for secondary and tertiary care, specialized laboratory tests, surgeries, and referred cases at major hospitals.
