As part of its ongoing faith-based public education drive, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Directorate of the Adansi South District Assembly visited the Methodist Church of Ghana, New Edubiase, to educate and sensitize church members on disaster prevention and fire safety.
The engagement forms part of the directorate’s broader quarterly campaign—covering five (5) local churches across the district—to leverage religious gatherings in spreading critical safety protocols on Domestic, Commercial, and Bushfires.
Key Deliberations at the Methodist Church Engagement
Led by the District NADMO Director and Zonal Officers, the educational session provided church members with practical, everyday guidance to protect their homes, businesses, and places of worship:

Domestic & Household Fire Safety: Congregants were educated on common domestic hazards, including unsafe handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders, leaving cooking fires unattended, overloading electrical sockets, and using substandard wiring in homes.

Commercial & Occupational Hazards: With many church members engaged in trade at the local market and farming across the district, the team highlighted commercial fire risks—such as leaving electrical appliances powered overnight and using unmonitored open flames in market stalls.

Bushfire Prevention: Farmers and rural residents in the congregation were cautioned against unmonitored land clearing and indiscriminate bush burning during farm preparation, emphasizing the construction of protective firebelts.

Emergency Responsiveness: The team outlined basic emergency evacuation steps during sudden fire outbreaks and shared local NADMO emergency contact numbers for prompt reporting.

Addressing the congregation, the District NADMO Director remarked:
“Disaster prevention is a shared responsibility. Engaging worshipers at the Methodist Church allows us to reach families directly. When a mother, father, or young person learns safe gas cylinder usage or basic fire precautions in church, that knowledge protects an entire home and neighborhood in New Edubiase.”
