Ataasi Nkwanta, Adansi South District – In a major joint effort to promote community hygiene and prevent the outbreak of sanitation-related diseases, the Adansi South District Assembly’s Environmental Health Unit, in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS), successfully organized a massive community clean-up exercise at Ataasi Nkwanta on Friday, 8th May 2026.
The intensive communal labor exercise brought together local assembly officials, environmental health officers, community health nurses, traditional leaders, and enthusiastic residents.
Participants worked together to clear choked gutters, desilt major drainages, clear overgrown weeds, and safely dispose of accumulated plastic waste and refuse across principal streets and market areas in Ataasi Nkwanta.
This collaborative initiative forms part of the Adansi South District Assembly’s aggressive campaign to improve environmental sanitation and safeguard public health. By cleaning up potential breeding sites for mosquitoes and rodents, the exercise directly supports ongoing efforts by the Ghana Health Service to curb diseases like malaria, cholera, and typhoid within the district.
The Adansi South District Environmental Health Officer commended the chiefs and people of Ataasi Nkwanta for their high turnout and exemplary communal spirit.
Following the cleanup, public health officers and environmental health assistants conducted a brief community sensitization session, educating residents on proper waste segregation, the dangers of open defecation, and the legal penalties for indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
The Adansi South District Assembly reminds all communities across the district that maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility. Residents are urged to sustain the clean-up spirit and make environmental hygiene a daily habit to ensure a healthier Adansi South.
