NADMO Extends Fire Safety Campaign and Hazard Checks to Atobiase Market
In continuation of its district-wide commercial fire prevention campaign, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Directorate of the Adansi South District Assembly conducted a public education and hazard inspection exercise at the Atobiase Market.
The field operation, carried out under the Operation Stop the Fire Disaster (#OSFiD) framework, aimed to sensitize local traders on fire precautions while identifying and eliminating workplace hazards that could trigger commercial fire outbreaks.

During the exercise, the NADMO operational team conducted stall-by-stall inspections and engaged market women, shopkeepers, and local patrons across the Atobiase Market:

Hazardous Cooking Practices: Officers inspected trading sheds for open-fire hazards, educating stall owners on the risks of using naked coal pots, open fires, or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) stoves near combustible goods and dry wooden structures.

Electrical Safety Monitoring: The team inspected electrical connections across stalls, advising traders against illegal power extensions, exposed wiring, and leaving electrical appliances plugged in overnight.

Access & Walkway Management: Traders were guided on keeping market pathways and alleys clear of merchandise to ensure easy movement and unhindered access for emergency responders in the event of an incident.

Direct Public Sensitization: Interactive talks were held with market leaders and traders, providing practical advice on basic fire control, early warning signs, and emergency contact procedures.
