STUDENTS OF NEW EDUBIASE HOME ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT EDUCATED ON DUTIES OF A CITIZEN

The Adansi South Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has taken its civic education campaign to the New Edubiase Home Economics Department, where students were sensitised on their duties as citizens of Ghana as enshrined in Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution.

The exercise forms part of the Commission’s mandate to educate Ghanaians on their civic responsibilities and promote active citizenship for national development.

During the engagement, students were taken through the provisions of Article 41, which outlines the responsibilities of every Ghanaian citizen. They were educated on the need to promote the good name of Ghana, uphold and defend the Constitution, respect the rights of others, and contribute positively to the development of their communities.

The session also emphasised that the enjoyment of rights and freedoms goes hand in hand with the performance of duties. Students were encouraged to be law-abiding, protect public property, pay taxes, and safeguard the environment as responsible citizens.

Addressing the students, the District Director, Mr. Charles Gyimah, reiterated that responsible citizenship is key to sustaining Ghana’s democracy. He urged them to take their studies seriously and apply the values of discipline, patriotism, and respect in their daily lives. He further noted that rights and duties complement each other, and citizens must not demand their rights without fulfilling their responsibilities.

The interactive session allowed students to ask questions and demonstrate their understanding of civic responsibilities. They actively participated by mentioning several duties captured under Article 41, showing a good appreciation of their role in nation-building.

The NCCE remains committed to deepening civic awareness among the youth to nurture responsible future leaders and promote democratic governance in the Adansi South District and beyond.
