EHSU Partners Community Leaders and Residents for Monthly Clean-Up Exercise at Akutreso Zonal Council
As part of ongoing efforts to promote public health and maintaining environmental cleanliness across the district, the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit (EHSU) of the Adansi South District Assembly successfully conducted its monthly clean-up exercise at the Akutreso Zonal Council area on Tuesday, 16th June, 2026.
The exercise, which forms part of EHSU’s routine community sanitation strategy held on every first Friday and scheduled rotational cleanup days, was organized in close collaboration with the Local Sanitation Committee, Honourable Assembly Members, and Unit Committee Members.
Key Activities and Execution
The exercise commenced at 7:00 AM and concluded at 10:00 AM, drawing active participation from local community members, local assembly representatives, and dedicated Environmental Health Officers.
Community members and field personnel utilized brooms, shovels, and wheelbarrows to carry out key sanitation tasks across major public spaces within the Akutreso Zonal Council area:

Drain Desilting & Dredging: Clearing clogged gutters and choked drainage channels to prevent stagnant water accumulation and reduce mosquito breeding sites.

Road Clearing & Shoveling: Removing accumulated mud, silt, and overgrown vegetation along roadside verges and principal pedestrian paths.

Sweeping & Waste Collection: Sweeping public squares, street verges, and communal areas, with collected refuse transported to designated disposal sites via wheelbarrows.
Commitment to Community Health and Hygiene
The leadership of the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit commended the residents, Honourable Assembly Members, and Unit Committee Members of Akutreso for their massive turnout and active involvement.
EHSU officials emphasized that maintaining a clean environment requires shared responsibility between local government authorities and community members. Regular desilting of drains and proper waste management are essential to preventing waterborne diseases and cholera outbreaks, especially during rainy seasons.
