NADMO Extends Fire Safety Campaign to Local Churches in Quarterly Disaster Prevention Drive
As part of its comprehensive quarterly risk-reduction strategy, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Directorate of the Adansi South District Assembly expanded its educational campaigns to faith-based organizations across the district, visiting five (5) major churches within the quarter.
Led by the District NADMO Director and Zonal Directors, the church outreach initiative aims to leverage community gatherings to sensitize congregants on preventing and managing Domestic, Commercial, and Bushfires.
Key Highlights of the Church Sensitization Campaign
The visits provided an interactive platform to engage large cross-sections of the population on practical safety measures and emergency preparedness:

Fire Safety in Places of Worship & Homes: Congregants were educated on common household hazards, including faulty electrical wiring, unattended cooking fires, overloaded sockets, and improper handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders.

Commercial & Bushfire Mitigation: Special focus was placed on church members who are farmers, traders, and small business owners, urging them to avoid unmonitored bush burning during land preparation and to maintain fire safety protocols in market stalls and shops.

School & Youth Outreach at Menang D/A Primary: Complementing the church visits, the directorate also organized a dedicated educational session at Menang D/A Primary School, teaching pupils early warning signs, basic fire safety habits, and emergency evacuation steps.

Community Preparedness: Church leaders and officers were advised to ensure emergency exits remain unblocked during services and to install functional fire extinguishers on church premises.

“Churches are central to community life in Adansi South. By bringing disaster prevention education directly to congregations, we ensure that safety information reaches mothers, fathers, youth, and business owners in an environment where they can listen, ask questions, and take these life-saving practices back to their homes and workplaces.”

Home Electrical Checks: Turn off and unplug non-essential electrical appliances before leaving for church or work.

LPG Safety: Always check gas cylinders for leakages using soap solution, never open flames, and ensure cylinders are kept outdoors in well-ventilated areas.

Farm & Bush Burning: Farmers are strongly advised to create protective firebelts around their farms and consult local NADMO disaster volunteer groups prior to burning.
