NADMO Directorate Embarks on Public Sensitization and School Educational Campaign on Fire Safety and Disaster Prevention
In a proactive effort to mitigate the risk of avoidable disasters and protect lives and property, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Directorate of the Adansi South District Assembly, led by the District Director alongside Zonal Directors, has launched an intensive public awareness and educational campaign across the district.
The initiative focuses on widespread disaster prevention, with special emphasis on curbing Domestic Fires, Bushfires, and Commercial Fires, which pose significant seasonal threats to homes, farms, and local businesses within the district.
Key Campaign Highlights and Community Engagements
The field operations combined community-wide sensitizations with targeted educational outreach in basic schools:
-
District-Wide Disaster Awareness: The District NADMO Director and Zonal Directors engaged community leaders, traders, and farmers on practical safety measures to prevent fire outbreaks. Discussions focused on safe electrical practices at home, proper handling of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders, and avoiding indiscriminate burning on farms during dry spells.
-
School Educational Outreach at Menang D/A Primary: As part of the grassroots outreach strategy, the district NADMO team visited Menang D/A Primary School to educate pupils and staff on basic fire safety, early warning signs, and safe evacuation procedures during emergencies.
-
Community & Commercial Fire Safety: Local shop owners and market operators were advised on proper storage of flammable materials, maintaining clear access routes for emergency services, and keeping basic fire control equipment on hand.
Key Message from NADMO Leadership
Speaking during the educational campaign, the NADMO District Director underscored the importance of prevention over emergency response:
“Disaster management begins with prevention and public education. By instilling fire safety consciousness in our school pupils at Menang and engaging our commercial operators, we build a community that is resilient, cautious, and ready to protect lives and properties from preventable fire outbreaks.”

Recommended Disaster Prevention Tips for Residents
-
Domestic Safety: Turn off unneeded electrical appliances before leaving home and regularly inspect gas hoses and regulators for leaks.
-
Bushfire Control: Farmers, hunters, and palm wine tappers are strongly urged to create firebelts and refrain from unmonitored bush burning.
-
School & Public Safety: School authorities and business owners should conduct periodic emergency drills and ensure safety pathways are kept clear at all times.
