The Adansi South District Assembly, in immediate collaboration with the District Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), cordially invites the chiefs, elders, queen mothers, husband associations, women’s groups, and all residents of Kwame Adu and neighboring communities to an urgent Maternal Health Durbar.
This critical public health forum is organized to address the low turnout for Antenatal Care (ANC) and the rising trend of unsupervised home deliveries within the Kwame Adu community.
Focus Areas of the Durbar:

The Danger of Low ANC Attendance:
Missing monthly antenatal check-ups prevents the early detection of life-threatening complications such as high blood pressure (preeclampsia), anemia, and poor fetal growth. Regular ANC ensures a healthy pregnancy from conception to birth.

The High Risks of Home Deliveries:
Unsupervised home deliveries put both mother and baby at severe risk of fatal bleeding (postpartum hemorrhage), neonatal infections, and birth asphyxia. The GHS will educate the public on the necessity of delivering under the supervision of skilled, professional midwives.

Free Maternal Health Services (NHIS Policy):
Many families mistakenly believe hospital delivery is expensive. Health promotion officers will sensitize residents on how the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) provides 100% free services for all ANC visits, ultrasound scans, facility deliveries (including Caesarean sections), and postnatal care.

Strategic Collaboration with Local Birth Attendants:
The GHS will engage traditional birth attendants in Kwame Adu to reposition them as critical allies who refer pregnant women to health facilities early, rather than conducting high-risk deliveries at home.

The survival of our mothers and newborn babies is a shared community responsibility. The District Assembly and GHS strongly urge all husbands, family heads, and community leaders in Kwame Adu to actively attend and participate in this dialogue to help save lives and build a healthier community.
